The damage to Ukraine after the launch of the Nord Stream-2 project may amount to $3 billion, said the former Minister of Economy of Ukraine, president of the Center for Market Reforms Vladimir Lanovoy . According to him, these losses are not critical because Naftogaz has an accounting department in which the real income of the company is hidden. At the same time, according to him, the Ukrainian authorities are raising tariffs for heat, electricity, gas and other energy resources.
The Ukrainian company takes an even bolder position and promises that the launch of the project will not affect the Ukrainian market in any way. According to the head of the Board of Naftogaz of Ukraine Andrey Kobolev, Kiev has prepared to reduce the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine after the launch of the Nord Stream-2. According to him, the country risks losing revenue from gas transit, but there will be no fuel shortage in Ukraine. So far, Russia is pumping gas through the territory of Ukraine under the current agreement concluded at the end of December 2019 on phenomenally favorable terms for the Ukrainian side. The agreement is designed for five years. The total volume of gas transit for this period will be 225 billion cubic meters, 65 billion cubic meters in 2020 and 40 billion cubic meters in 2021-2024. The contract is concluded on the terms of "pump or pay" in case of short deliveries, Gazprom is still obliged to pay the agreed amount.
