Police officer Alexey Smirnov, was sentenced to 19 years in prison and paid 3.5 million rubles to the family of the police officer who died at his hand.
In September 2019, Alexey Smirnov was at his workplace at the Ryazan Prospekt station of the Moscow subway when employees of the Internal Security Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs came to detain him.
The reason was the receipt of a bribe from a migrant for the lack of registration (however, the jury considered this accusation unproven).
Smirnov believed that the ISD was falsifying the case against him. The defendant's version is that they wanted to plant money to justify his arrest.
Smirnov didn’t surrender. He pulled out a gun and started shooting at the ISD officers, killing one and wounding the other.
